Mental Health Services

We recognise the importance of mental health for SEND mothers. Our organisation offers information and resources on affordable mental health services, ensuring they access the necessary support. We also offer psychotherapist-led workshops and counseling programmes. Empowering SEND mothers to thrive is at the heart of our mission.

Fun Family Outings

Creating joyful experiences for the whole family is a key focus at Black SEN Mamas. Therefore, we organise family fun days that are SEND friendly, ensuring an inclusive and enjoyable environment for all. These events also allow families to bond, connect with others, and make lasting memories, in a supportive community environment.

Community Workshops

Our community training workshops are intended for anyone who wants to learn more about how to better support SEND families. These workshops are typically offered as a package lasting 2 to 3 hours. They also cover a variety of relevant topics, empowering participants with valuable training to effectively support SEND families.

What we care for

Empowering Support

We deeply care about providing empowering support to Black SEND mothers, acknowledging their strength and resilience, while fostering a sense of belonging within our community.

Education Accessibility

We are committed to advocating for equitable access to education, ensuring that SEND children receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally.

Well-Being and Mental Health

We prioritise the well-being and mental health of both mothers and SEND children, offering resources, guidance, and a supportive network to help them lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

How we differ from others

We work with over one thousand Black SEND mothers, collaboratively developing an approach informed by real-life experiences, to explore optimal support for Black SEND mothers and children.

Through the use of regular surveys, panelled talks, focus groups, and support group sessions, we take the time to seek what support the mothers truly need in order to amplify their voices, and offer culturally competent training to their immediate support network (i.e. SEND services, NHS workers, schools, local authorities, wider family, and community members) to effect essential, constructive, long-term change.

Furthermore, we also differ because we possess a unique insight into the regular challenges confronted by Black SEND mothers and caregivers. This is because the Black SEN Mamas’ specialist team exclusively consists of Black mothers who have SEND children. Therefore, we have nurtured a supportive team that is united by shared goals and objectives, as we understand the burdens that come with this intersectional (Black, Female, and disabled) role of parenting.
