Black SEN Mamas

About Us

Our Story

Black SEN Mamas was founded by Marsha Martin a neurodivergent, autistic and ADHD mother of three, and former behavioural therapist. Frustrated by systemic barriers and racial disparities in SEND support, she created a safe space where mothers like her could access culturally competent advocacy, mental health support, and community.

What began as peer-led conversations has grown into a thriving network of over 6,000 mothers across the UK and beyond.

Our Approach

Our Mission

To dismantle systemic barriers and create safe, inclusive spaces where Black SEND mothers are empowered, supported, and heard.

Our Vision

A society where Black neurodivergent children and their families thrive – with equity, dignity and access to the support they deserve.

Our Team

We are specialists and SEND mothers ourselves: therapists, lawyers, SENCOs, educators, social workers – every member of our team is a Black SEND parent. This unique lived expertise ensures we approach every service with deep empathy and cultural understanding.

How We Work

  • Co-production: Every programme is shaped by The Mamas, through focus groups and feedback.
  • Accessibility: We provide transport, childcare, and SEND-trained provision at all sessions; offering mothers safe culturally competent spaces and real opportunities for respite.
  • Equity-driven: We push for systemic reform through advocacy, training, and policy engagement.
